Planetary Concerns and UK Citizen's Assembly

It is increasingly obvious that a huge majority of the Earth's human population now realize that the way we are living is destroying the wonderful planetary systems we depend upon. Like dumb rabbits caught in car headlights, we simply stare incomprehensibly at the rapidly approaching disaster. Our so-called leaders have no answers – despite their puffed up rhetoric they are just useless froth on top of the beer, trapped in the institutions of a civilization they do not understand.


The most significant development in Britain is the setting up of a new “Citizens' Assembly” by the UK government which will make recommendations on the action required to reduced carbon emissions. This very important initiative has not received wide publicity – in effect it amounts to an admission that the systems of populist democracy are not able to reach sensible long-term decisions.

About the John Seymour School

John Seymour came to live in Ireland in 1981 when he began work on developing his smallholding in County Wexford. A regular series of summer courses was started in 1993.     Will Sutherland joined John in running courses soon afterwards and continued to work with John until his death at the age of 90 in 2004.   Will continues to run courses and give workshops on the many and various topics covered by the Complete Book.
